Jam with a Pro

Do you or someone in your family play a musical instrument? Do you have a young musician at home getting in a slump because everything is online these days? Are you an adult who has an instrument you’ve always adored collecting a little dust and need a good excuse to get playing again?

The Musicians of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra (VSO) , the region’s only full-time, professional orchestra, are currently offering 45 minute Jam with a Pro sessions. Sign up for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to not just have a typical music lesson, but you will get to play music side-by-side with a pro. These jam sessions are open to all levels, ages, and any genre of music.

What: Interested participants will be matched with a VSO Musician for a 45 minute jam session which can be playing duets, asking questions, or one-time tips & tricks session. All genres of music are welcome and encouraged!

When: Once matched with an appropriate jam partner, your VSO Musician will email you to coordinate a mutually agreeable time to meet. Sessions will last for 45 minutes from the agreed upon start time.

Where: We have 2 options - online and in person. Online sessions will be held on a platform like Zoom or FaceTime, TBD with your VSO Musician. In person meetings will only be held outdoors, socially distant, and wearing masks whenever possible. A location will be discussed and agreed upon with your VSO Musician

How: Fill out our registration form, then you will be contacted via email for individualized scheduling and music requests. Forms can be found on our VSO Musicians website at www.VSOMusicians.org under “Support the Musicians - Jam with a Pro”

Cost: We request a minimum donation of $40 to our VSO Musicians Relief Fund. Donations must be received before the agreed upon date of the Jam with a Pro session. We will do everything we can to accommodate your scheduling needs and the weather. Please know that sessions will be “rained out” even at the very slightest turn of weather - our instruments are our livelihood and we take just as good care of them as we do our children! For outdoor meetings, we will have a rain date scheduled, just in case of foul weather.
